The existing issues include:-

• Inefficient measuring method for amount of food wasted : There is no efficient method to measure the amount of food wasted, its all done manually as of now.

• No efficient method to reduce the wastage of food : There are a few methods which account for a good usage of the wasted food, for eg: Biodegradation, etc. But there is a lack of ideas that reduce the wastage of food rather than making good usage of the wasted food later on.

• Accuracy : The method of measuring the amount of waste food should have high accuracy

• Cost-Effectiveness : The proposed solution should be financially viable, taking into account the budget constraints and resources available to implement the system.

• Scalability : The solution should be scalable, and should be suitable at a large scale as the amount of food wasted in IIT Bombay is quite high.

• Innovation : Uniqueness and creativity of the proposed solution.

• Feasibility : Practicality and viability of implementing the solution within the existing campus infrastructure and budget constraints.

• Effectiveness : The ability of the solution to address the key challenges and improve the overall delivery experience for students.

• Scalability : Potential for the solution to handle increasing delivery volumes as the campus grows.

• Collaboration : Quality of proposed collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Participants are expected to submit a detailed proposal outlining their innovative solution, including implementation plans, cost estimates, and potential collaboration strategies. Additionally, a prototype or proof of concept demonstrating the proposed solution is encouraged to supplement the proposal.

Participants are encouraged to think creatively and leverage their skills, knowledge, and resources to devise a solution that not only addresses the immediate problem but also serves as a model for optimizing in similar educational institutions. The winning solution will not only enhance the experience for IIT Bombay students but also inspire future innovations in the field of campus logistics.

The primary objective of this challenge is to devise a comprehensive, viable, and cost-effective solution that optimizing measuring methods of food wastage in hostel messes, making it easy and more efficient for the mess council to keep a track of the amount of food wasted, analyze the different ways in which the food gets wasted giving solutions to reduce the food wastage in each.
