1. Registration
IIT Bombay follows a specialized credit-based semester system, therefore registration at the beginning of each semester is mandatory for you till you complete your program (look out for the dates in the Academic Calendar). Without registration, any academic activity (course/seminar/project, etc.) that you undergo will not be counted towards the requirements of your degree.1.1 Pre-Registration
- When: Usually held about a week before official course registration begins.
- Autumn Semester: 11th – 15th July 2025

Spring Semester: 19th – 23rd December 2025
(Not FCFS, i.e., not First-Come-First-Serve) - What it covers: Minor courses, popular/high-demand electives (e.g., Entrepreneurship electives), and certain department electives.
- Allocation: Based on CPI or professor’s criteria.

portal → Forms/Requests.

1.2. Registration
- When:
- Autumn: 22nd – 24th July 2025
- Spring: 30th Dec 2025 – 1st Jan 2026

Where: Internal ASC portal → Academics → Registration → Registration/Adjustments.

- Pre-registered courses auto-added.
- Add additional courses (open slots) manually.
- Most open courses are FCFS.
- Reminders:
- Register before deadlines in the Academic Calendar.
- Confirmation email after successful submission.
- Missing deadlines → registration not processed.
1.3. Course Adjustment
- Duration: ~7–10 days after course registration ends.
- Allowed: Add/remove courses (electives freely, core only with FacAd approval).
- Multiple changes allowed, but resubmit each time.
- Credit load must stay within 18 to overload limit.
1.4. Dropping & Withdrawal of Courses
If the workload is too heavy after adjustment, you can drop courses while maintaining a minimum 18 credits, with FacAd's permission.
- Autumn 2025:
- 1st half-semester: 12–18 Aug
- 2nd half-semester: 29 Sep – 6 Oct
- Full-semester: 12 Aug – 6 Oct
- Spring 2026:
- 1st half-semester: 20–26 Jan
- 2nd half-semester: 10–16 Mar
- Full-semester: 20 Jan – 16 Mar
Result: Transcript shows W/DR grade (Withdrawal/Drop).

- From 3rd semester onwards, registration depends on Academic Standing.
