| Description | Foraminifera are marine unicellular organisms that secrete microscopic shells of calcium carbonate. Depending on their habitat, these shells have unique shapes, sizes and architecture. Once they die and become part of the fossil record, their preservation is also governed by their shell strength. This project will involve FDXM scanning of these shells, shape analysis and testing their strength (experimentally as well as by simulations). The insights will be applied on the foraminifera from the end Cretaceous mass extinction interval. |

| Description | The project intends to introduce the student to major geobiological changes such as mass extinctions, global glaciations, evolution of atmospheric oxygen, and complex multicellular life, that happened in the evolutionary history of our planet. The major geochemical and isotopic proxies that are used to uncover some of these events will also be studied. |
