Overview

The Fast Track Degree provision allows B.Tech and B.S. students at IIT Bombay to complete their degree requirements and graduate earlier than the standard four-year duration. This provision enables students to leave the Institute after completing their credit requirements, provided they have spent at least three years at the Institute.

Eligibility

Students can apply for the Fast Track Degree if they meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of all credit requirements for the B.Tech or B.S. Programme.
  • Minimum of three years spent at the Institute.
  • Application is made towards the end of an academic semester (typically after the 6th or 7th semester).

Application and Approval Process

  • Application Creation: Create an application stating that credit requirements for the degree have been completed. Attach a comprehensive list of all courses completed, tagged according to the student's chosen categorization.
  • Approval Process: The application requires the Faculty Advisor (FacAd) signature before submission to the DUGC Convener. Students should approach their FacAd/Convener, DUGC to begin the process. After DUGC verification and approval, the application is forwarded to UGAPEC for final review and approval by the Convener, UGAPEC.
  • Certificate Issuance: Upon UGAPEC approval, the Academic Office issues a provisional certificate confirming the student is qualified for the Bachelor of Technology / Bachelor of Science degree award in their respective branch. The Convener, UGAPEC may also approve the Credit Completion certificate, which can be given to the students after clearance of all dues.
  • Degree Conferment: Students receive their degrees during the Annual Convocation as scheduled in the Academic Calendar alongside their regular batchmates. The provisional certificate specifies that the degree will be conferred during the departmental degree distribution function on the convocation date. The passing date on transcripts corresponds to the date UGAPEC approves the results, while the programme duration remains listed as a 4-year B.Tech/B.S. programme.

Important Considerations

  • Students do not have to pay semester fees for remaining semesters or register for the semester during the application process or post approval.
  • Students can register for placement opportunities independently but will not receive hostel facilities during placement activities.
  • Re-registration as a student is not permitted once the Fast Track Degree is approved.
  • Ensure all Institute dues are cleared before degree conferment, as students will not receive their degree unless all dues showing up on ASC Payment are green in colour.
